Chapter 1: Premonitions & Promises

370 D. R.
Kokiri Forest

Deep within the Kokiri Forest resided a small village inhabited by the Kokiri people. This was the same village where the Hero of Time, Link, lived long ago. What remained the same was that the Kokiri stop growing at the age of ten. Some said it's due to something in their blood, but in actuality, it's the magic of the Kokiri Forest. It stopped all growth of those created in the forest. However, in the sixty years that have passed, the Kokiris' existence weren't just rumors any longer.

Many more things changed over years as well. The major difference that occurred was the way the village thrived. Sixty years ago, the Kokiri were carefree and didn't know much about the outside world. When Ganon managed to gain control of Hyrule, many of the Kokiri people fell under his power and were corrupted. However, some managed to defend themselves from his evil. They secretly developed a counsel with supervisors in charge of defense, military, intelligence, treasury, regulations, and safety, thus were able to drive Ganon's influence out of the forest.

It was just another day in the Kokiri Village. A Know-it-all brother taught lessons to the newer members of the Kokiri while Shopkeeper sold and traded items from his store. Iwa, in charge of maintenance of the Forest, removed rocks and weeds from neighboring Kokiris' yards. The great Mido, elder of the village, discussed village and forest business with his six counsel members.

"Twenty armored guards will arrive tomorrow afternoon. They will send a messenger to tell us of their arrival," Mido placed his finger on the Kokiri Forest entrance located on the map between him and the other counsel members. "Our strongest men will carry the chests to them and load them onto their wagons."

"Are you sure it's safe to give the scrolls to Hylians?" Suwaru, Supervisor of Defense, asks worriedly, her brows nitted. "If these scrolls get into the wrong hands, it could be the end of all Hyrule."

"It is safe. For one thing, Hyrule Castle is better armed than we are. Second, Queen Rachel guaranteed a watchman would be guarding the scroll room at all times," Tsuyosa, Supervisor of Military, interjects. "I see no problem in sending them to the castle."

"Then everything is settled," Mido folded the map as they all nodded. "The Scrolls of Cessation are going to Hyrule Castle."

That night in Gerudo Valley...

"Good night, my sweetlings," an lady, looking to be in her 40s, retreated and closed the curtain to two women's bedroom. They chorused a reply and both promptly fell into an untroubled sleep. At least, one of them did, anyway.

A dense fog rolled strangely around the feet of the woman as she appeared in a dream. Her smile faded as she gazed at her nightmarish surroundings.

"Welcome to the Dreamscape, Himago-chan," a deep voice rang over the silence. The woman looked briskly around, trying to find its source. "Relax, himago-chan, I won't harm you."

"I am not your himago-chan. Now, show yourself, demon," she growled as she unsheathed the sword at her waist. The sword's blade, made of pure, red energy, crackled and fluctuated as its owner's burning, ruby red eyes scanned the area again. "I prefer knowing what my opponent looks like before I defeat him."

"On the contrary, himago-chan. You cannot defeat me," the voice chuckled as the fog gathered in front of her and slowly took shape of a man.

"Ganondorf!" the woman gasped, recognition displayed all over her face.

"Hai, himago-chan, you will finish for me what I started," he sneered as he stroked his great-granddaughter's cheek. The fire in her eyes died at his touch, replaced by a softer, lovesick glow.

"Oneechan! Oneechan!" the other woman shook her sister's tossing body, trying to wake her from her nightmare. The woman sat up, much to her sisters relief. "Oneechan! Are you alright?"

"I'm fine, imoto-chan," she gently pushed her sister away as a small, but evil smile played at the corner of her lips. "I'm just fine."

"Demo, oneechan, are you sure you okay?" she looked worriedly. "You were having a nightmare..."

"I told you I'm just fine," she exited the room. "Come, we have plans we need to discuss."

Lynn tossed and turned in her bed. With sweat pouring down her face, she woke from her nightmare. She stumbled to the wash basin across the room and dipped her drowsy head into the cool water. After wiping her face off with a towel, she stared at the mirror, wondering what the nightmare meant. Was it foretelling the exact future or just what could happen? She dismissed it with a shrug. It was just a nightmare. Nothing more.

Lynn.. A haunting voice echoed in her room.

"Yeah, yeah," Lynn walked slowly to the rug in the middle of the room. "I'm coming." She sat with her legs crossed and began meditatation. Fifteen minutes later, her spirit rose out of her body and disappeared.

It reappeared in the middle of a field covered with a bluish, thrashing fog. Overhead, a dark green sky brightened as neon pink lightning flashed in the distance. As Lynn's faded form walked through the knee-high purple grass, the fog dispersed, clearing an obvious path to the center of the field. Lynn's spirit approached the center, eventually stopping in front of a statue of a woman. She began to wait.

"It is time, Champion of Hyrule," The same, soft voice echoed in her ears. Suddenly, a column of wind erupted around the statue and it began to move. As the wind whipped about, the woman's waist-length, dark blonde hair flew freely as well as her pale yellow robes. "The battle for the planet's future is fast approaching. Are ye ready, my Champion?"

"Hai, Farore-sama," Lynn kneels before the woman. "I am ready."

"Excellent," the goddess smiled, then frowned. "But, beware. Ganondorf and his kin are devious foes. Always be wary when ye are near them." She motioned for Lynn to stand and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Go with care. Unfortunately, my time has ended. Sayonara, my Champion." Her form and Lynn's faded.

The next day...

Just as Mido said, twenty armored guards from Hyrule arrived at the entrance. The chests were loaded and the guards left to return to Hyrule Castle through Hyrule Field.

As the caravan traveled along the dirt road adjacent to Zora's river, they reached a capsized, horse-drawn wagon. Lying under the wagon, a figure in a black cloak whimpered, pain wracking her frail form. Mido and the Captain-of-the-Guard slid off their horses and approached them.

"Oh, thank Din-sama, you've come," a withered woman in a gray cloak emerged from behind the wagon. "My imoto-chan is trapped under the wagon. I think her leg is broken. Do you think your men can lift the wagon up and pull her out?" When Mido agreed, she smiled in gratitude. "Be careful, though. The wagon is very heavy."

The guard motioned for five of his men to lift the wagon. They tried, but the wagon didn't budge. Five more guards moved to lift it and still the wagon wouldn't move. The rest gathered to help. They eventually succeeded.

As the wagon was lifted off her, the injured woman jumped upon it and threw a reddish brown dust into the air, temporarily blinding Mido and the soldiers. After the air cleared and the men regained their eyesight, Mido's hysterical cry rang out over the field.

"The scrolls! They're gone!" he fell to his knees with his head in his hands.

"What's the big deal?" one of the guards shrugged. "They're just moldy old scrolls."

"You don't understand," anger flashed in his eyes. "Those scrolls contain the incantation to nullify the Triforces power!"

Meanwhile, at Lon Lon Ranch...

Today has to be the hottest day all summer. Lynn sighed as she wiped her brow after brushing down Harmony. Usually the temperature varies between seventy and eighty, but today it's reached ninety-five and it's only noon. After one last swipe of the brush, Lynn tossed it into the pail in the corner of the stable. Locking Harmony back into her stall, Lynn stroked the horse's nose thoughtfully. Suddenly, Lynn's eyes narrowed as an icy chill crawled up her back despite the suffocating heat.

Is something wrong, Lynn? the horse looked worriedly at her long time friend, nuzzling her hand in hope of snapping the daze. Even though Harmony was aware of her friend's foretelling visions, lately they'd became stronger and were beginning to worry the horse.

"Sorry, Harmony. Just a weird feeling," Lynn unlocked the latch, walked her out, and saddled her up.

Where are we going? Harmony questiond, her eyes never leaving Lynn.

"We're going to Lon Lon Ranch," she grunted as she launched herself off the ground and into the saddle. Tapping her heels softly on Harmony's side, she sped out of the stable and on toward Lon Lon Ranch.

As Lynn approached the Ranch, a stable boy, recognizing her, opened the gates.

"Ohayo, Touma-kun," she greeted him as she entered the Ranch. "How's your family?"

"Ohayo, Lee-chan. Everyone's fine," he smiled, then frowned. "I thought I'd better warn that Mido-sama, his guards, and some of Hyrule's Guards are talking with Link-san. Mido-sama looked like he was about to faint."

"Arigatou, Shu-kun," she sighed and galloped further into the ranch.

Just as Touma had said, twenty-one horses dressed in Hylian blues and Kokiri greens grazed out in the field with Lon Lon's own horses. Lynn stopped Harmony and tied her bridle to the fence surrounding the horses. The fifteen soldiers sat around a picnic table playing cards. Lynn just raised an eyebrow as she quietly entered the house through the kitchen, where her grandmother, Malon, was preparing dinner.

"Lynn-chan!" she exclaimed as she hugged her. "How nice of you to drop by! Are you hungry? Dinner will be ready in a few moments."

"Arigatou, Obasan, demo I've got to see Ojisan."

"I advise you not to disturb him, dear. Mido-san and some of the Hylian Royal Guard are chatting with him right now," Malon waved her spatula at Lynn as she walked toward the swinging door leading to the dining room. "Now, Lynn-chan..."

Lynn paused just inside the door, seeing her granfather, Mido, and the five remaining soldiers gathered at the dining table.

"...What are we going to do, Link?" Mido voice cracked as he looked at his once long-time rival. "Only Megami-sama knows what the future hol..." Mido stopped as he see Lynn by the door. "Lynn..."

"Mido-san," she nodded in his direction. "It's the scrolls, isn't it? They've been stolen."

"How?" Hyrule's captain-of-the-guard narrowed his eyes as he stood. "How did you know? No one has been told of their disappearance."

"Sen-san, sit down," Link commanded. "As I was about to mention, I no longer am holder of the Triforce of Courage. Lynn, my granddaughter, is."

"Link-sama? This girl is the current holder?!" Sen exclaimed. "You've got to be joking?"

"No, he's not," Lynn growled as she pulled off her right riding glove. The Triforce symbol glowed brilliantly as she lifted up her hand.

"And under my tutilage, she has fully mastered the power of the Triforce of Courage," Link looked proudly at her. "Something which I never did."

Sen gasped quietly, then shook his head in disgust. "The fate of Hyrule rests in the hands of this girl..."

"Not just Hyrule, Sen-san," Lynn's eyes flashed from blue to gold. "The fate of the entire planet. Ganon has returned and I will protect this planet at all costs."
